Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest in Cancer Diagnostics, One-Stop Clinics, Ambulatory Gynaecology and Colposcopy. This post has arisen as part of phase 1 consultant workforce expansion with the aim of improving FDS performance and cancer treatment pathway. The appointment will support the delivery of high-quality, sustainable obstetric and gynaecological services, ensuring appropriate consultant presence on the labour ward, maintaining elective and ambulatory gynaecology activity, and providing supervision and training in line with current postgraduate curricula.
The successful candidate will be a General Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in gynaecological cancer diagnostics, including ultrasound-based one-stop clinics (USC), ambulatory gynaecology pathways, and colposcopy. The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of rapid diagnostic pathways, ambulatory services, and outpatient-based care models aligned with national cancer strategy and modern gynaecological practice. The post holder will participate in the resident consultant on-call rota for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Women and Children’s Hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary. Consultant expansion is underway, and the on-call model is evolving towards a sustainable structure with dedicated resident obstetric consultant cover supported by separate consultant on-call provision for gynaecology.
Main duties of the job:
- A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising 8 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 2 for supporting activities (SPAs).
- 1.5 SPAs are classed as ‘core’ and cover time for training, teaching, CPD, audit, appraisal, clinical governance and attendance at service meetings.
- There are opportunities to participate in undergraduate teaching within the HYMS medical school curriculum.
- Additional SPA time can be allocated for research, clinical management and educational supervisor (ES) activity.
- It is expected that the appointee will have completed ES training or complete this within a short time of taking up the post.
- All new appointees will be encouraged to develop their management skills by taking on a management role which could include assisting more senior colleagues with the organisation of educational activities, College Tutor, audit lead, junior doctor management, recruitment etc.
- Personal preferences can be considered, and training will be given for the chosen role.
- Additional PA time is negotiable for more senior management, research or educational roles within the department.
- All employees may be required to work across different sites (HUTH, NLaG) depending on service needs.
- There will be opportunities to support service development within outpatient and surgical management of complex gynaecology patients.
