Humans MCR supports people facing food poverty across Greater Manchester through food support, affordable groceries, cooking skills and advice services. We're seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help ensure the charity remains financially strong and sustainable.
As Treasurer, your contribution will help ensure Humans MCR remains financially resilient, sustainable and able to support more people across Greater Manchester. Demand for our services continues to grow, while the funding environment facing charities remains increasingly challenging. Your expertise will help the board understand the organisation's financial position, make informed decisions and plan confidently for the future.
Working alongside the CEO, Finance Manager and fellow trustees, you'll help ensure that financial risks are understood and opportunities for growth can be pursued responsibly. The impact of your role will extend far beyond the boardroom. Strong financial oversight helps us continue delivering food support, affordable groceries, cooking education and advice services to people experiencing food poverty and financial hardship. It enables us to plan ahead, respond to changing community needs and ensure that every pound entrusted to the charity is used effectively.
As a Treasurer, you'll help provide the financial confidence and stability that allows Humans MCR to focus on what matters most: supporting people with dignity, choice and practical help when they need it most.
What are we looking for?
- Someone who is passionate about helping charities thrive and who can bring financial expertise, sound judgement and constructive challenge to our Board of Trustees.
- The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant or have significant senior-level experience in finance, accounting, financial management or a related field.
- Experience gained in the charity, public or private sectors is welcome.
- Ability to understand and interpret financial information, budgets, management accounts and forecasts.
- Help trustees understand financial information and support effective decision-making.
- Provide strategic insight on financial planning, sustainability and risk management.
- Support the board in maintaining strong financial governance and transparency.
- Offer constructive challenge while working collaboratively with fellow trustees and the executive team.
Previous experience of serving as a trustee is not essential. We are happy to support someone who is new to charity governance and keen to use their professional expertise to make a difference. Knowledge of the charity sector, charity finance or charity regulation would be beneficial, but we are equally interested in candidates who can bring relevant experience from commercial, public sector or professional backgrounds.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who shares our commitment to tackling food poverty and supporting people with dignity. We value people who are approachable, thoughtful, willing to ask questions and able to communicate financial matters in a clear and accessible way to colleagues who may not have a financial background.
What will you be doing?
As Treasurer, you'll play a key role in helping Humans MCR remain financially strong, sustainable and ambitious. Our board currently consists of trustees with experience across areas including charity leadership, governance, marketing and community engagement. As the organisation continues to grow, we're looking to strengthen the board's financial expertise and create greater challenge and support around financial planning and decision-making.
Humans MCR has grown significantly in recent years and now supports thousands of people across Greater Manchester through food support, affordable groceries, cooking education and advice services. We have a dedicated CEO, Finance Manager and operational team in place, meaning this is not a hands-on bookkeeping role. Instead, we're looking for someone who can provide strategic financial oversight and help the board make informed decisions about the charity's future. The Treasurer will work closely with the CEO, Finance Manager and fellow trustees to review financial performance, support long-term planning and ensure the board has a clear understanding of the organisation's financial position. They will help champion strong financial governance across the charity.
