Job Description
Humanoid is the first AI and robotics company in the UK, creating the world’s most advanced, reliable, commercially scalable, and safe humanoid robots. Our first humanoid robot HMND 01 is a next-gen labour automation unit, providing highly efficient services across various use cases, starting with industrial applications.
Our Mission
At Humanoid we strive to create the world’s leading, commercially scalable, safe, and advanced humanoid robots that seamlessly integrate into daily life and amplify human capacity.
Vision
In a world where artificial intelligence opens up new horizons, our faith in its potential unveils a new outlook where, together, humans and machines build a new future filled with knowledge, inspiration, and incredible discoveries. The development of a functional humanoid robot underpins an era of abundance and well-being where poverty will disappear, and people will be able to choose what they want to do. We believe that providing a universal basic income will eventually be a true evolution of our civilization.
Solution
As the demands on our built environment rise, labour shortages loom. With the world’s workforce increasingly moving away from undesirable tasks, the manufacturing, construction, and logistics industries critical to our daily lives are left exposed. By deploying our general-purpose humanoid robots in environments deemed hazardous or monotonous, we envision a future where human well-being is safeguarded while closing the gaps in critical global labour needs.
About the Role:
As a Senior Industrial Designer at Humanoid, you’ll play a key role in shaping the physical expression of our humanoid robots.
From early sketch exploration to refined CAD and prototyping, your work will focus on delivering compelling designs that integrate seamlessly with mechanical, electronic, and software systems.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Contributing to the Industrial Design of robotic form factors and morphology.
- Creating physical designs that respond to the needs of home users, service environments, and other real world contexts where people and robots interact closely.
- Working across multiple product lines to deliver Industrial Design solutions across various parts of our robots’ systems.
- Translating design insights and strategies into tangible, manufacturable solutions that are business, customer and user orientated.
- Producing concept sketches, physical mockups, 3D CAD models, and rendered presentations.
- Collaborating with engineering teams to ensure design feasibility, integration, and refinement.
- Supporting Design For Manufacturing (DFM) and Design For Assembly (DFA) processes through iterative prototyping and close communication with engineers and internal stakeholders.
- Participating in design reviews and helping set visual and design directions for current and future product iterations.
- Working between and with the different design disciplines in the team to create a holistic Industrial Design solution that compliments the approaches taken with both Fashion and HRI/UX Design.
Expertise & Skills
- 5+ years of experience in Industrial Design, with a strong portfolio showing system level problem solving and thinking matched with high quality execution.
- Demonstrated ability to design for household, service, or public environments where ease of use, comfort, and emotional connection to the product matter.
- Experience designing for physical products with integrated hardware and bleeding edge technology: robotics (not mandatory), wearables, consumer electronics, domestic appliances, furniture or adjacent fields.
- Skills in Nurbs based CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Rhino, NX), 3D visualization (e.g. KeyShot, Blender, Unreal), and hands-on prototyping (foam modelling, 3D printing, basic workshop skills).
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator, for concept development, rendering touch-ups, and presentation design.
- Strong sketching and communication skills, capable of expressing ideas across disciplines and levels of fidelity.
- Comfort working through ambiguity in fast-paced R&D settings.
- A thoughtful, collaborative mindset with the ability to work across disciplines and give/receive critique constructively.
- (Bonus) Experience working with garments or soft goods, or an interest in the interplay between textiles and technology.
Benefits
- High competitive salary.
- 23 calendar days of vacation per year.
- Flexible working hours.
- Opportunity to work on the latest technologies in AI/ML, Robotics and others.
- Startup model, offering a dynamic and innovative work environment.
