Job Description

Robotics Technician

Humanoid is the first AI and robotics company in the UK, creating the world’s most advanced, reliable, commercially scalable, and safe humanoid robots. Our first humanoid robot HMND 01 is a next-gen labour automation unit, providing highly efficient services across various use cases, starting with industrial applications.

Our Mission

At Humanoid we strive to create the world’s leading, commercially scalable, safe, and advanced humanoid robots that seamlessly integrate into daily life and amplify human capacity.

Vision

In a world where artificial intelligence opens up new horizons, our faith in its potential unveils a new outlook where, together, humans and machines build a new future filled with knowledge, inspiration, and incredible discoveries. The development of a functional humanoid robot underpins an era of abundance and well-being where poverty will disappear, and people will be able to choose what they want to do. We believe that providing a universal basic income will eventually be a true evolution of our civilization.

Solution

As the demands on our built environment rise, labour shortages loom. With the world’s workforce increasingly moving away from undesirable tasks, the manufacturing, construction, and logistics industries critical to our daily lives are left exposed. By deploying our general-purpose humanoid robots in environments deemed hazardous or monotonous, we envision a future where human well-being is safeguarded while closing the gaps in critical global labour needs.

Role Overview

The Robotics Lab Technician plays a key support role within the Robotics team, ensuring the smooth and continuous operation of all robotic platforms and associated infrastructure. This role is responsible for maintaining lab equipment, assisting with hardware prototyping, constructing and modifying test environments, and providing hands-on support during data collection and research experiments.

The ideal candidate will have a strong practical background in mechanical and/or electronic systems, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary, fast-paced research setting. This is a shift-based role with working hours alternating on a weekly basis between 06:30–14:30 and 14:30–22:30.

  • Carry out routine inspections, calibrations, and preventative maintenance on robotic systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, including actuators, sensors, cabling, and Linux based systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and fault logs using internal systems.
  • Experiment and Data Collection Support
  • Support research and data collection teams in the preparation and execution of experimental sessions.
  • Set up robots and related systems in advance of tests; monitor equipment during live runs.
  • Provide technical assistance during testing to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure proper data handling, including logging, backups, and equipment checks.
  • Environment and Testbed Construction
  • Build and reconfigure physical testing environments (e.g. indoor navigation spaces, mock domestic/industrial settings).
  • Adapt setups to suit specific experiment protocols or hardware requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and compliant workspace in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Hardware Prototyping and Assembly
  • Assist engineering teams in the assembly and modification of mechanical and electrical prototypes.
  • Follow technical drawings and instructions for constructing or adjusting subsystems.
  • Use hand tools, basic power tools, soldering equipment, and test instruments as required.
  • Lab Operations and Inventory Management
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of components, tools, consumables, and equipment.
  • Keep detailed records of repairs, equipment configurations, and setup procedures.
  • Help coordinate lab usage and maintain shared workspaces.
  • Support compliance with internal lab protocols and assist with audits where necessary.

Expertise

  • Technical qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in robotics, mechatronics, electronics, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with robotic systems, hardware assembly, and fault-finding.
  • Familiarity with sensors, microcontrollers, motors, embedded systems, and diagnostic tools.
  • Competence using hand tools, soldering equipment, and test instruments (e.g. multimeters).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, circuit diagrams, and mechanical schematics.
