Join to apply for the Volunteer role: Young Humanists Ambassador in York at Humanists UK. Young Humanists are the 18-35 section of Humanists UK. We want a world where tolerance, empathy and reason prevail, and where policy is created on the basis of evidence and equality. To do that, we work to ensure that more and more young people are aware of and active in humanism at the local level, and provide a national voice on issues that are relevant to them.
Around two thirds of young people in the UK are not religious. However, the younger community is extremely under-represented in local humanist groups around the country. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Ambassador in the York area, to work with our Local Group, York Humanists. You would also be expected to liaise with any humanist/atheist student societies and other relevant groups (e.g. skeptics groups) in the area, and make sure that the needs of 18-35 year old non-religious people in and around York are met.
Whatever your background or prior experiences, if you’re passionate about representing the voice of young humanists in your local community, we’d love to hear from you. We actively encourage applications from all sections of our community. We particularly welcome applicants from groups currently under-represented among section volunteers and leaders; these would include individuals who identify as female, disabled, trans or from the global majority.
To volunteer with Humanists UK, we ask that you also register as a Supporter, if you are not already. This allows you to receive mailings from the organisation, to further your understanding of the work Humanists UK does, and to inform your own volunteering practice. There is no cost to you for this registration. You may also wish to consider becoming a Member; more information on membership can be found here. Membership is not a requirement to volunteer with Humanists UK.
