We are looking for a part-time Volunteer & Events Liaison at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Reporting directly to the Volunteer Coordinator at the main shelter, this role focuses on expanding our impact by managing volunteer engagement, recruitment, and tracking for Dayton Humane & Co and MeowZa Cat Boutique. Additionally, this position takes the lead on volunteer recruitment and volunteer management for our signature community and fundraising events.
Position Type: Part-Time (20–25 hours per week; requires a flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events).
Responsibilities:
- Recruits, trains, schedules, and provides ongoing mentorship to volunteers specifically supporting Dayton Humane & Co and the MeowZa Cat Boutique off-site locations.
- Serves as a primary administrator for the Better Impact volunteer management system, ensuring accurate scheduling, communication, and meticulous logging of volunteer hours.
- Coordinates and leads group tours and corporate volunteer days, fostering strong, positive relationships with community partners.
- Oversees volunteer recruitment, placement, and on-site management for all major HSGD signature events, including the annual Fore Paws Golf event, Furry Skurry 5K, and the Pet Afflaire Gala.
- Works closely with the main shelter’s Volunteer Coordinator to ensure alignment of volunteer policies, culture, and core organizational standards.
- Provides “red carpet” level customer service to the public, volunteers, and corporate groups in person, over the phone, and digitally.
- Responsible for handling minor event administrative needs, which may include handling money, tracking registration lists, or assisting with setup and teardown.
- May be called upon to perform other HSGD tasks to support the team as needed, including but not limited to: assisting with animal handling/transport to events, cleaning volunteer spaces, or data entry.
- Trains, encourages, motivates, and provides positive guidance to volunteers representing the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.
Essential Skills:
- Succinct communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to organize thoughts in a logical, clear, and concise manner.
- Excellent time management and organization skills, with the ability to balance multiple sites and event timelines simultaneously.
- Self-motivated to actively recruit new volunteers and improve engagement programs.
- Performs other job‑related duties and activities as needed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
- Communicate, as necessary, to all internal and external contacts in a timely manner.
- Have a flexible schedule to accommodate off‑shift hours, evenings, and weekend events.
- Travel, as needed, between main shelter, retail boutique locations, and event venues.
- Represent the Humane Society as a professional.
Minimum Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1+ year of experience in a volunteer management or community‑facing role is preferred.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Experience and ability to use standard office equipment.
Certifications & Training Requirements:
This position is expected to have ongoing knowledge of the volunteer management and animal welfare industries, requiring continued education to grow as a team member through certification, research, study, and interaction with other professionals and leaders.
