The Humane Society of Greater Dayton (HSGD) is proud to be a no-kill organization serving the Miami Valley since 1902. Our mission is to build a community in which all animals are valued and free from suffering, and life is enhanced through relationships with pets.

We are looking for a part-time Offsite Adoption Event Specialist to manage and represent HSGD at community events throughout Montgomery County. This role ensures our presence with adoptable animals and literature, actively engaging the public to promote our mission.

Hours: Part-Time (5–10 hours per week; flexible schedule, weekends and evenings required).

Responsibilities

  • Runs, manages, and represents HSGD at various offsite community events.
  • Showcases adoptable animals and educational literature at targeted events throughout Montgomery County.
  • Safely transports animals, supplies, and event equipment to and from locations.
  • Works alongside, trains, and motivates volunteers to support HSGD’s goals.
  • Provides “red carpet” level customer service to event attendees, clients, and volunteers.
  • Safely handles animals, cleans event crates, and maintains organized event setups.

  • Willing to work weekends/evenings and capable of working alone or with a team.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, outgoing, and possessing strong time management skills.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written professional communication skills.

Minimum Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous event or animal experience preferred, though we are willing to train the right person.
  • Knowledge of general animal health, behavior, and basic handling protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for safe animal/equipment transport.
  • Compliance with all HSGD policies and protocols.

Certifications & Training Requirements

  • Ongoing commitment to learning about the animal adoption and welfare industry through continued education, research, and interaction with shelter leadership.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach, and lift.
  • Must routinely lift and/or move up to 30 pounds (e.g., event tables, tents, or loaded animal crates).
  • Required to safely handle, restrain, and transport animals in public settings including large dogs.
