The Humane Society of Greater Dayton (HSGD) is proud to be a no-kill organization that has been serving the animals and people of the Miami Valley since 1902. Our mission is to build a community in which all animals are valued and free from suffering, and life is enhanced through relationships with pets.

Responsibilities:

  • Sending booster, surgery, and event reminders to foster caregivers
  • Discussing and preparing supplies required by foster homes
  • Preparing cages in advance in foster holding with appropriate cage cards
  • Cleaning and feeding animals in foster care when necessary
  • Maintaining stock and tidiness in foster holding
  • Preparing supplies in advance, such as food and litter
  • Preparing cage cards and charts prior to surgery and ensuring they are ready for vet staff
  • Setting up cages for fosters coming back to the shelter
  • Assisting with restraining animals for vaccines or blood draws
  • Inputting vaccine information into ShelterLuv after booster appointments
  • Assisting in transports from other shelters (transport team member)
  • Other responsibilities as directed by volunteer/foster supervisor

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of HSGD policies and procedures
  • Interact with coworkers and volunteers in an efficient and courteous manner to ensure a cooperative team environment amongst all departments
  • Responsible for keeping relevant work areas clean and organized
  • Must provide a high level of customer service at all times, even under stressful conditions
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy workplace environment
  • Ability to think clearly, act quickly and utilize sound judgement in a variety of situations
  • Ability to handle animals safely and with patience, gentleness and compassion

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Excellent public relations skills. Ability to form and maintain professional relationships
  • Excellent verbal, written and observational skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Professional in appearance and behavior
  • Must be a goal-oriented self-starter
  • Confident computer skills including experience with Google Apps, Microsoft Word, Excel, social media, databases, internet navigation, and research
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving and criminal abstract

Certifications & Training Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent

Physical Demands:

The majority of this position involves desk and computer work but could also involve circumstances that require standing for long periods of time. Some lifting is required – generally should be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Animal handling is required - generally should be comfortable around all types of domestic animals. Must be able to work at a fast and efficient pace.
