What if your next role didn’t just support systems… but helped shape the future of computing itself? What if the infrastructure you build today could be referenced in the history books of computer science and physics tomorrow? And what if you could do all of that while working across software, hardware, and cutting-edge engineering challenges every single day?
The Opportunity
Our client is searching for a Site Reliability Engineer / Systems Engineer / DevOps Engineer to take ownership of highly advanced, mission-critical environments. This is not your typical infrastructure role—this is an opportunity to contribute to a programme with the potential to redefine what’s technologically possible. You’ll be at the heart of ensuring that complex systems remain resilient, scalable, and production-ready, supporting both experimental development and live operational environments. The work is ambitious, the challenges are real, and the impact could be historic.
Why This Role is Great
This is a role for someone who wants to go beyond maintenance and into true engineering impact. Here, you’ll:
- Take the lead in integrating and maintaining sophisticated control systems across hardware and software layers
- Help define and evolve operational procedures that underpin a highly ambitious technical mission
- Work hands-on with diverse infrastructure, from network systems and servers to containerised environments
- Build and implement automation frameworks for provisioning, orchestration, and system configuration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed DevOps best practices into complex, non-standard environments
- Develop monitoring, logging, and alerting systems that provide deep visibility into system health
- Enhance and scale CI/CD pipelines supporting continuous delivery across multiple system layers
- Play a critical role in incident response and root cause analysis, directly improving system reliability
- Influence how systems are secured, accessed, and managed across the organisation
About You
You’re someone who enjoys working where complexity meets opportunity—and where your work has tangible, lasting impact. You’ll likely bring experience in:
- Designing and managing network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP)
- Administering Linux and Windows environments, including troubleshooting and optimisation
- Writing scripts and tooling in Python, Bash, Go, or similar
- Using Docker, Kubernetes, and modern containerisation practices
- Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI)
- Applying infrastructure-as-code principles with tools like Terraform or Ansible
- Implementing observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, etc.)
- Working with physical servers and lab-based infrastructure
You may also have exposure to:
- Systems involving embedded hardware or real-time control
- Advanced testing environments such as hardware-in-the-loop setups
- High-performance or scientific computing systems
- Secure deployment and full lifecycle engineering practices
Most importantly, you’re motivated by the idea of contributing to something bigger than a typical engineering role—a mission where success could leave a lasting mark on the field.
What’s in It for You?
- Competitive salary aligned to your experience and market benchmarks
- Equity opportunities, giving you a stake in long-term success
- The chance to work on deeply technical, high-impact challenges
- A collaborative, forward-thinking environment where innovation is encouraged
- Real scope to influence systems, processes, and outcomes at a fundamental level
