Ready to take ownership of complex, cutting-edge systems? Keen to shape technology from early concept through to real-world delivery? Looking for a senior engineering role where your work will genuinely influence product direction? Our client is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to play a central role in the development of a next-generation advanced technology platform. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys bringing together complex hardware, software, optics, motion control, automation and precision engineering into robust, high-performance products.
You will help define system architecture, guide integration and verification activities, and support the transition from research-led prototypes into reliable, deployable products. It is an ideal role for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving multidisciplinary challenges and wants to help shape future technical capability.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will take system-level ownership of sophisticated, high-precision products that combine advanced optics, laser-based processes, motion systems, controls, software and machine vision. You will work across the full product lifecycle, from concept and requirements through to validation, release and continuous improvement. You will also have the chance to contribute to technical strategy, collaborate with specialist suppliers and internal teams, and help ensure that innovative technologies become practical, field-ready solutions.
Why This Role is Great
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead system architecture from early concept through detailed design, prototyping, verification and release
- Define system requirements, performance targets and risk models across mechanical, electrical, optical and software elements
- Bring together complex subsystems into stable, high-performing, production-ready solutions
- Influence how advanced laser, photonics and precision instrumentation technologies are integrated into commercial products
- Work on challenging system trade-offs involving beam delivery, thermal behaviour, alignment, stability, automation and reliability
- Shape verification plans, test strategies and fault-finding approaches at system level
- Collaborate closely with software, engineering and technical teams to deliver coordinated, high-accuracy performance
- Support the development of safe, repeatable and scalable workflows with strong consideration for compliance and operational robustness
- Contribute to product maturity, manufacturability and long-term technical roadmap planning
- Engage with external partners and suppliers to define specifications, assess performance and support successful delivery
About You
You are likely to be an experienced systems engineer with a strong background in photonics, laser systems, precision instrumentation, optics, advanced automation, or complex multidisciplinary hardware platforms.
- Strong experience working with complex, high-precision systems
- A track record of leading products or platforms from concept through to deployment
- Expertise in system architecture, integration, verification and troubleshooting
- Experience with advanced optical or photonics-based systems
- Knowledge of precision motion systems and high-accuracy positioning technologies
- Confidence working across software, controls, electronics, mechanics and optics in an integrated way
