Do you enjoy leading highly capable engineers in complex technical environments? Are you at your best when balancing delivery, quality and team growth? Looking for a role where software sits close to cutting-edge hardware and genuinely innovative products?
Our client is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead a specialist team working on software that sits at the heart of an advanced technology platform. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys building high-performing teams, shaping technical direction, and working across software, hardware and research-led functions.
This role would suit a technically credible people leader who is excited by the challenge of guiding a team through ambitious delivery goals while supporting individuals to do some of the best work of their careers.
The Opportunity
This is not a routine software management role. It offers the chance to lead a team responsible for software that connects sophisticated systems, coordinates critical components, and enables complex real-world operations. You will join a collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment where software is central to product performance and future scalability. Working closely with engineers, technical specialists and senior stakeholders, you will help turn evolving requirements into clear priorities, well-managed delivery plans and robust technical outcomes.
Initially, you will lead a team of around five engineers, with scope to influence future team growth and capability development.
Why This Role is Great
- Lead a high-calibre engineering team and create the conditions for excellent technical delivery
- Shape priorities and ownership by managing backlog activity and aligning work to wider business goals
- Work close to advanced systems and hardware-integrated software, offering a genuinely interesting technical landscape
- Partner with senior technical leaders to support team planning, delivery strategy and future growth
- Help build a healthy engineering culture that values pace, quality, clarity and continuous improvement
- Support engineers to thrive through coaching, performance conversations and career development
This is an opportunity to step into a role where your leadership will have visible impact — on the team, on delivery, and on the wider success of a highly innovative organisation.
About You
Our client would love to hear from you if you bring experience such as:
- Leading software engineers in a technically complex environment
- Working with Linux-based systems
- Delivering software that interacts with hardware or distributed technical infrastructure
- Confidence setting expectations, prioritising work and helping teams stay focused on what matters most
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders
Not every applicant will tick every box, and that is absolutely fine. If you have led strong engineering teams, worked in technically demanding environments, and enjoy bringing clarity to complexity, this could be a fantastic next step.
What You’ll Gain
Alongside a competitive package, this role offers the chance to join an ambitious and intellectually stimulating environment where your work will matter.
- Annual performance-related bonus
- Share or equity-style incentive opportunity
- Generous annual leave
- Hybrid/flexible working options
- Private medical and dental cover
- The chance to work alongside exceptional engineers and technical experts
- Real opportunities for progression as the team grows
Why Apply?
If you are looking for a Software Engineering Manager role where you can combine technical credibility, people leadership and meaningful delivery responsibility, this is a standout opportunity. You will be joining a team solving complex problems, building sophisticated software systems, and creating technology with real ambition behind it.
