We're working with a well established technology business that builds large scale, mission critical software used by thousands of users every day. Their platform is undergoing a major transformation, moving away from legacy systems towards a modern, API first architecture designed for scale, performance, and long term maintainability. They are now looking for an experienced Tech Lead to take ownership of a core API platform. This is a hands on leadership role combining technical delivery, architectural decision making, and people management. You'll lead a small, focused engineering team, line managing four developers, while working closely with Product and QA to deliver robust, high quality backend systems.
What you'll be doing:
- Owning the technical direction and architecture of an API driven platform
- Leading the migration from legacy systems to modern backend services
- Defining standards for API design, versioning, security, and documentation
- Writing high quality production code and leading by example
- Line managing and mentoring engineers, supporting their development
- Acting as the technical escalation point for the team
What they're looking for:
- Proven experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer in a leadership role
- Strong experience building and maintaining APIs in production environments
- Solid understanding of object oriented design and scalable architecture
- Commercial experience with PHP and Symfony
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, and containerisation tools like Docker or Kubernetes
- A pragmatic, collaborative approach to engineering
The role is mostly remote with occasional travel. Salary up to £80k DOE with a strong benefits package.
If you're looking for a role where you can shape platform direction, lead a team, and still stay hands on technically, this could be a great next step.
Inclusion Matters: We and our client are committed to creating a team that values diverse experiences and backgrounds. If this role excites you but you're unsure if you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. Talent is about potential - not perfection.
