Location: 4 days per week onsite (Hertfordshire area), with flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
The Opportunity
Our client is at an exciting inflection point, already generating revenue, and now investing in building a powerful, scalable platform from scratch. This is not a typical engineering role. You will be stepping in as the first technical hire, working directly with experienced founders to shape, architect, and deliver a multi-product platform designed to operate across multiple brands, regions, and user experiences. You will be building something ambitious: a highly configurable, high-performance system supporting large-scale user activity, complex business logic, and seamless integrations, while leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery.

About You
You are someone who thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys building things properly from the ground up. You will likely bring:
- Strong experience building production-grade web applications
- Confidence designing scalable backend architectures
- Hands-on expertise across the full stack (frontend and backend)
- Experience working with APIs and third-party integrations
- Solid understanding of relational database design, ideally PostgreSQL
- Comfort using AI tools as part of your development workflow
You may also have experience with:
- Multi-tenant SaaS or marketplace platforms
- Payments, wallets, or financial systems
- High-traffic, high-concurrency environments
- Internationalisation including multi-language and multi-currency
- Event-driven or distributed systems
- Internal tooling or admin platforms
