Senior Mechanical Engineer – Precision Mechanisms
Oxfordshire | £60,000–£75,000 DOE
Do you enjoy designing mechanisms where accuracy, repeatability and manufacturability are critical?
Would you like to take ownership of complex mechanical products from concept through to production?
Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to develop precision mechanical systems and small-scale mechanisms. This is a hands-on role offering significant technical ownership, varied engineering challenges and the opportunity to influence products from first principles.
Why This Role is Great
You will:
- Lead mechanical design work from early concepts and prototypes through to detailed design and manufacture.
- Develop compact mechanisms involving motion, adjustment, positioning, linkages, bearings, gears or flexures.
- Apply tolerance analysis, GD&T, calculations and FEA to validate performance.
- Solve challenges involving materials, friction, wear, joining methods and manufacturing processes.
- Work closely with technical specialists, suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Lead design reviews and support high engineering standards across multiple projects.
- Help improve designs for reliable, scalable production.
About You
Our client would be keen to hear from engineers with experience in several of the following:
- Precision mechanical design or mechanism development.
- Taking products from concept through to production.
- Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally SolidWorks or a similar package.
- Tolerance analysis, GD&T and design for manufacture.
- Small-scale mechanisms, controlled movement or repeatable positioning.
- Metals, polymers and precision manufacturing processes.
- FEA, hand calculations or other design-validation methods.
- Ownership of technically complex engineering workstreams.
Experience from precision engineering, automation, scientific equipment, aerospace, advanced manufacturing or another high-tolerance environment could transfer well. You do not need to meet every requirement to apply.
