The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) is the UK’s independent regulator of fertility clinics and research involving human embryos. We are looking for a Clinical Inspector to join our team on a nine‑month contract covering maternity leave. The role is home‑based, with travel across the UK including overnight stays.
Main duties of the job:
- Assist in the management of the regulation of a portfolio of HFEA licensed centres and promote good practice and compliance.
- Lead and/or support an inspection team in field assessments using approved inspection methodologies.
- Liaise with centres to monitor ongoing compliance.
- Process and assess applications using approved HFEA methodologies.
- Produce high quality, evidence‑based reports.
- Make professional judgments on the impact of non‑compliance and recommend proportionate actions to achieve continuous improvement.
- Assist in the investigation of adverse incidents and complaints; deputise for the clinical governance lead and, where necessary, escalate to the Chief Inspector.
- Respond to enquiries and correspondence from centres and stakeholders.
- Manage own workload and produce high‑quality output by prioritising activities and meeting organisational KPIs.
- Secure and maintain an understanding of legislation, regulations, directions and codes of practice, HFEA policies and procedures, and apply this knowledge in the regulatory process.
- Maintain detailed written records of all activities using approved HFEA methodologies.
- Contribute to the development of policies and improved practices through involvement in organisational and directorate projects.
- Promote and maintain a positive image of the HFEA.

Qualifications:
- Education to at least degree level (or equivalent). Preferred: Master’s degree.
Experience:
- Clinical or nursing background with senior role in a relevant healthcare discipline.
- Experience managing and prioritising a complex workload.
- Experience leading and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience gathering, analysing and interpreting information and evidence.
- Experience promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Desirable: Experience in audit or inspection work.
