Our client works in the offshore, ports and shipping and oil and gas industry and is looking for a Crane Automation Engineer to work on new and innovative projects worldwide. As part of the Crane Automation Engineer position, you will work all over the world, travelling anywhere from the North Sea to Rio, Scunthorpe to Singapore. You will receive all relevant offshore tickets and medicals, work in a variety of environments and on a huge range of equipment. The company supports the ports and shipping, military, manufacturing and oil and gas industries. They are thriving after winning several new contracts globally and are looking to expand.
Ideally, you will be OEM trained or have several years of experience, specifically in the automation sector focusing on Drives and PLCs. Although you may be required to attend the office for certain projects (which will be fully expensed), you will predominantly be home-based and travel to customer sites when needed.
What does the job entail?
- Assist in the preparation of tenders for overseeing tenders.
- Able to complete Site Surveys both onshore, offshore or overseas.
- Provide technical and fault-finding support for electrical, PLC & Drive systems.
- Assist with review of PLC & drive specifications with the aim of production of FDS documents.
- Assist in the preparation of automation project documentation and certification packages.
- Assist in the production of Maintenance documents.
- Assist in the preparation of Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Be able to back-up PLCs & Drives from existing systems for the purpose of reverse engineering or upgrading.
- Engineering design and coding related to electrical and PLC systems for onshore and offshore cranes and lifting equipment.
- Act as lead on Installation of projects.
- Liaising between the engineers and subcontractors.
- Be able to carry out initial commissioning of projects e.g. I/O checks and power on checks.
- Preparation of work-packs and other documentation.
- Project management activities including all technical and commercial aspects of projects.
- Familiarisation with client’s and company HSEQ policies and procedures.
- Familiarisation with client’s and company Safety policy and the Safety Management System.
- To identify safe and environmentally sound methods of work and systems which identify hazards at each place of work.
- Be familiar with relevant legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes and good industry practice.
- Plan, organise and document client work processes to deliver the required standard with minimum risk to personnel, plant, materials and the environment.
- Give company personnel and subcontractors precise instruction to implement safe methods of work and pre-defined communication lines between client and company.
- Encourage personnel engaged on project/contract to develop an acceptable safety and environmental culture, which encourages near miss and accident reporting.
- To act immediately on any breach of company rules which come to attention and where required report to line manager in relation to those breaches.
- To be alert to any inadequacies of the effectiveness of the management system and to bring such inadequacies to the attention of line management.
- Provide Project Management and engineering support for offshore crane repairs, refurbishment, operation and maintenance.
Required experience:
- Knowledge and experience of programming Siemens PLCs – Step 5, Step 7 & TIA Portal.
- Good working knowledge of Siemens Drives – MasterDrive’s, Micromasters & Sinamics.
- Knowledge of VFD/VSD drives and their interaction with PLCs.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Capable of working without supervision.
- Have a methodical and dynamic approach.
- Good communication skills.
- Onshore or Offshore crane and lifting experience preferred.
- Good understanding of HSEQ requirements offshore.
- Sound IT skills, MS project, excel, word etc.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of maintenance of electrical, PLC & Drive systems.
