An established UK engineering manufacturer within the lifting and material handling sector is looking to recruit an Electrical Design Engineer to join its technical team. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the design and development of electrical systems and control panels for overhead crane and lifting equipment applications. The position offers involvement across the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through to commissioning and product improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for overhead cranes and associated lifting equipment
- Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation using CAD software
- Specify electrical components, cabling and wiring systems
- Design and develop control panels and associated control systems
- Create and configure parameter sets for variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Support commissioning and fault-finding activities alongside workshop and production teams
- Assist installation engineers and provide technical support to customers where required
- Participate in product development and prototype validation activities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, standardisation and efficiency
- Work collaboratively across engineering, production and service departments
- Ensure compliance with company quality and safety procedures and relevant industry standards
Requirements
- HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline
- Experience designing electrical control systems and schematics
- Familiar with PLCs and variable frequency drives
- Comfortable using CAD software for electrical drawings
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general IT systems
- Able to communicate confidently with colleagues, suppliers and customers
- Organised and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Willing to undertake occasional site visits, including working at height where required
Desirable Experience
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or similar
- Previous experience within cranes, hoists, material handling or industrial machinery
- Knowledge of BS EN 60204, UL508A or similar standards
- Experience using Zuken E3 or similar electrical CAD packages
- Understanding of functional safety principles
- 5+ years' experience within a similar engineering environment
