This is a newly created infrastructure role within a large, operationally complex organisation that relies heavily on a stable, modern technology estate. The infrastructure function operates as a small, senior, highly trusted team, giving this role genuine ownership and visibility across the business. Rather than sitting in a silo or being boxed into a single domain, you’ll take responsibility for a broad infrastructure landscape spanning cloud, networking, endpoint management, and corporate connectivity.
Although titled Infrastructure Manager, this is not a people-management role. It’s designed for a senior infrastructure engineer with a managerial mindset—someone who wants to own outcomes, shape standards, and be trusted to make the right calls.
Why This Role Is Compelling
- Real ownership, not fragmented responsibility
- A hands-on senior remit without line management overhead
- A chance to influence how infrastructure is run, not just support it
- A stable environment where long-term thinking is valued
You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, have autonomy in decision-making, and play a key role in maintaining and evolving a critical technology estate.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is a true generalist infrastructure role, suited to someone who enjoys owning problems end-to-end.
Key Areas Include
- Cloud & Identity (Azure / Microsoft)
- Ownership and optimisation of the Azure environment
- Managing identity, access, and security controls
- Monitoring, performance, and cost optimisation
- Supporting a cloud-first, modern infrastructure strategy
- Endpoint & Modern Workplace
- Managing device and policy configuration using Microsoft Intune
- Supporting a secure, scalable endpoint estate
- Driving automation, consistency, and security across devices
- Network & Connectivity
- Supporting corporate connectivity and SD-WAN initiatives
- Troubleshooting network issues across sites and users
- Acting as a senior escalation point for infrastructure incidents
- Operational Ownership
- Tier-3 infrastructure support where required
- Improving documentation, resilience, and operational processes
- Operating calmly and effectively in a small, trusted team
The service desk function is separate from infrastructure, ensuring this role stays focused on engineering and ownership, not ticket volume.
The Profile That Will Thrive Here
This Role Is Ideal For Someone Who:
- Is a senior infrastructure generalist, not a narrow specialist
- Is comfortable working in lean teams with real accountability
- Wants long-term ownership and stability
- Brings sound judgement, not just technical depth
Core Experience
- Strong Azure infrastructure background
- Solid networking fundamentals and troubleshooting skills
- Endpoint / device management experience (Intune or equivalent)
- Confident operating independently and making decisions
Working Model
- 4 days per week on-site (Plumstead area)
- Fridays remote, with an early finish
- Clear expectations, no ambiguity
- Office presence is important due to the nature of the environment, but this role offers genuine flexibility built into the week, communicated openly from day one.
Package
- Salary up to £60,000
- Hybrid working with guaranteed Friday remote + early finish
- High-trust environment with low bureaucracy
- Meaningful ownership of a business-critical infrastructure estate
