Job Overview
The post holder will take responsibility under the direction of the Lead Consultant(s) to deliver an expert nursing service to patients within the paediatric surgical service covering both Urology and Gastroenterology conditions, from diagnosis until discharge, transition to the adult service or terminal care. You will deliver specialist-nursing skills, demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and expertise in the autonomous management of children and young people within the paediatric surgical service. You will ensure that patients and their families are educated, informed and supported by providing clinical and social support in relation to their specific diagnosis and treatment plans.
Main duties of the job
- Work flexibly across a caseload of patients across both the hospital and community setting for local patients.
- Provide expert advice to other health care professionals and initiate guidelines based therapies that address acute management issues across a variety of urological and gastroenterological conditions.
- Contribute to the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines and participate in audit.
- Work across organisational, regional and national boundaries and form good working relationships with colleagues in the Tertiary centres of Leeds and Sheffield and within the wider Surgery in Children ODN.

Education/Qualifications
- RN Child/RSCN NMC Registered
- Teaching/mentorship qualification on the live mentorship database
- Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development
- Clinically competent within surgical specialty to include urology/gastro
- Must be able to travel to different locations with access to a car
Desirable criteria
- 1st level degree in nursing or health-related subject
- Post registration qualification in specialty or willingness to undertake training
- Non-medical Prescriber or willingness to undertake
Knowledge/experience
- Significant knowledge & experience in a Band 5 or above within paediatric surgical nursing
- Experience in safeguarding children
- Experience of having worked collaboratively as part of an MDT
