The Mascot & Student Content Ambassador is a student role designed to help promote HUSU events and activities while gathering real‑time feedback from students in video form.

About the Role: The role supports the Marketing and Communications team by acting as a bridge between HUSU and the wider student body, helping ensure student communication stays relevant and is reflected in future planning. It requires you at times to represent HUSU by dressing up as our mascot Percy, supporting brand visibility, atmosphere, and student engagement at key events. This role offers students practical experience in marketing, communications, research, and engagement, while giving HUSU direct insight into student preferences, experiences, and expectations.

Be Engaging:

  • Distributing materials and engaging face to face with students on campus to promote our campaigns, such as Freshers, Varsity and Elections, commercial activity, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Giving students at Hull University Students’ Union information through social media.
  • Answering questions online, signposting students, and sharing details of our services.
  • Sharing key information clearly and positively, talking to students about upcoming events and activities, and creating your own content.
  • Attending events dressed up as our Mascot Percy to increase visibility and create atmosphere.
  • Supporting Freshers, open days, fairs, and major campaigns by engaging with students for photos, social content, and interaction.
  • Helping create a fun, welcoming, and recognisable HUSU presence.

Evaluation and Feedback:

  • Investigating new ways to promote and communicate to students, encouraging students to complete surveys, and gathering quotes or comments about student experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a member of HUSU’s Marketing Team, supporting the promotion of HUSU events through peer‑to‑peer content creation.
  • Encourage student participation by sharing clear, relatable information.
  • Build and maintain relationships with HUSU key stakeholders, in particular students/members.
  • Promote activities and events to students through face‑to‑face and digital engagement, including Freshers, Elections, volunteer and rep recruitment, sports, societies, events and awards nominations (list not exhaustive).
  • Support President and student‑led campaigns with promotion.
  • Provide tours of the Students’ Union and answer queries from students and prospective students.
  • Carry out data entry and collate feedback from surveys, focus groups and other evaluation techniques.
  • Always ensure confidentiality in the handling and dissemination of information and data, and in embedding and implementing GDPR across the workload.
  • Carry out all duties in line with HUSU’s policies and in line with the organisation’s values and strategic aims.
  • Ensure the Health and Safety policy and procedures are always followed.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be required from time to time under the overall scope of the role.

Reports to: the Marketing and Communications Manager

About You:

  • Currently studying at the University of Hull.
  • Completed at least one year at the University of Hull.
  • Experience of video creation through Instagram reels or other channels.
  • Confident in speaking with other students or groups.
  • Care about improving the student experience.
  • Reliable, friendly and approachable.
  • Can work collaboratively with others.
  • Must be able to wear a mascot suit and interact well with an audience.
  • Knowledge of Hull University Students' Union and our services.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and/or weekends.
