This is a key role for an individual who wants to shape modern manufacturing processes, drive automation initiatives, and support a high‑performance operations environment.
Role Purpose: You will develop, optimise, and support manufacturing processes with a strong emphasis on automation, controls systems, and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and H&S teams to ensure equipment reliability, process efficiency, and safe, standardised operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing Process & Technical Support
- Provide technical support to daily manufacturing operations.
- Ensure equipment operates in line with process requirements and performance standards.
- Develop and maintain clear, standardised operating procedures for the operations team.
- Troubleshoot and resolve controls‑related issues across production lines.
- Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, efficiency, and process optimisation.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement modern engineering solutions, including robotics, vision systems, and advanced controls.
- Develop automation concepts and progress them through feasibility, cost analysis, CAPEX approval, and implementation.
- Advise management on new technologies, cost‑benefit outcomes, and long‑term process improvements.
- Cross‑Functional Technical Support
- Support Maintenance with controls diagnostics, root‑cause analysis, and creation of standardised troubleshooting guides.
- Assist Production in developing standardised equipment manuals and operating instructions.
- Work with Quality and H&S teams to identify and implement technical solutions that reduce risk and improve compliance.
- Project Management (CAPEX & OPEX)
- Manage capital and process development projects, including budgeting, technical scoping, and timeline control.
- Identify improvement opportunities, calculate savings, and prepare CAPEX/OPEX documentation.
- Collaborate with global Donaldson engineering teams and external contractors to align best practices and deliver successful project outcomes.
Required Competencies & Experience
- Technical qualification: HNC, HND, or BEng in Engineering or related discipline.
- Proven experience in controls engineering, including PLC & HMI programming (Siemens, Rockwell); motion control systems and drives; vision systems; 5‑axis robots and cobots (hands‑on implementation).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation technologies, and industrial equipment.
- Ability to create clear documentation and communicate technical concepts to non‑technical teams.
