The Language Unit at the University of Hull is seeking to appoint suitably qualified and experienced teachers of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join our online pre-sessional teaching team this summer. As a professional service located in the Student Development department of the University of Hull, the Language Unit provides learning opportunities to enable students to realise their potential and achieve excellent outcomes. The pre-sessional teaching team plays a key role in this by not only supporting international students to meet the entry requirements of their main programme, but also in helping them to transition to UK Higher Education.

The pre-sessional English programme runs in the summer between June and September. We offer 10-week and 6-week courses for students with conditional offers who need to demonstrate they are able to meet the University of Hull's English language requirements. Applicants will be asked to specify their preferred option, but availability of places will depend on demand.

The role will typically involve:

  • preparing, planning and teaching 15 hours of group classes per week.
  • conducting up to 4 hours of individual tutorials per week.
  • carrying out assessment duties such as marking and report writing.
  • completing administrative duties and working with the team to ensure the course runs smoothly.

Classes and tutorials take place from Monday-Friday between the hours of:

  • 08:00 and 15:00

Classes are in the morning from 08:00-11:00 with tutorials scheduled in the afternoons. Week-to-week hours may vary if there is a bank holiday or non-teaching days following assessment. As an experienced teacher, you will be required to manage your own time and determine priorities to satisfy the requirements of the role. This is an occasional worker role and is therefore paid on an hourly rate.

Applications close at 00:01am of the closing date listed. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications. If you are interested in this role, please submit your application as early as possible.
