The University of Hull is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Computer Science within the School of Digital and Physical Sciences. The School brings together the disciplines of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics, alongside the Centre of Excellence for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Modelling (DAIM). It forms part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, one of three faculties within the University.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Cyber Security.
Cyber Security:We are preparing to launch an exciting new undergraduate programme in Cyber Security. The successful candidate will play a role in shaping and delivering this programme from its inception.
Computer Science has a strong legacy of delivering BSc, MEng, and MSc programmes accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). With around 600 undergraduates and 50 MSc students, our teaching and research strengths lie in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Games Development, and Robotics.
The University is investing significantly in digital innovation and sustainability, with Computer Science playing a central role. Our staff contribute to key interdisciplinary initiatives, including:
- The Energy and Environment Institute - Supporting research and doctoral training with a focus on achieving net-zero goals.
- The AURA initiative - Shaping the future of offshore wind and low-carbon energy through research, training, and innovation.
We maintain strong links with industry and are proud of our proactive outreach to local schools and colleges.
The standard academic role at the University includes a combination of teaching, research, scholarship and administration. While all roles will combine these areas of work, the relative weight of each will vary from level to level and over time for individual role holders.
These are typically the entry level posts for an academic career and the duties and responsibilities are appropriate for early stage academics. It is expected that role holders will be developing their skills and competencies in a way which will promote growth into the full academic role. More senior appointments will be considered for suitably qualified candidates.
Newly appointed teaching and research staff at this level will teach as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within an established programme of study, with the support of a mentor as per induction procedures. The role holders:
- Will develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research and conduct individual and collaborative research projects.
- May oversee postgraduate students and act as a personal tutor for students within the department.
