Job Description Summary:

PURPOSE: To ensure the galleries, storage areas and offices of the Museums service are clean and maintained in line with laid down standards. To provide basic maintenance and cleaning of museum displays, ensuring museum displays and objects are clean, tidy and presented to the highest standard. Assist technical and museum staff teams as needed in setting up exhibitions and events, moving collections in storage and monitoring pest management controls as required. To provide the highest standard of front of house operations and presentation including general customer care, cleaning, retail, security, porterage and assistance to other staff as required. To welcome and care for every visitor and user of Hull’s Museum and Art Galleries and to project a welcoming and professional image, ensuring the continuity of the service 362 days per year. Various hours available at the Maritime Museum and various city centre venues.

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and/or vulnerable adults.
  • To clean and maintain the galleries, museum displays, storage areas and offices of the Museums Services as required.
  • To assist service teams and technical staff with the installation and set-up of exhibitions and events including IT set up.
  • To ensure the highest housekeeping and storage standards across the museums and gallery.
  • To assist Curatorial staff to manage their stores, supporting the moving of collections and monitoring pest management and condition controls as required.
  • Keep the building and equipment clean and maintained.
  • Provide an efficient porterage and messenger service for the Museums/Art Gallery.
  • Provide basic maintenance support for building and equipment including construction, erection and dismantling of stands, furniture, display equipment and exhibitions as required.
  • To report maintenance and Health and Safety problems as they are discovered to the line manager.
  • To provide security for the Museums and Art Gallery, ensuring emergency, fire and security procedures are followed, including locking and unlocking buildings.
  • To support in the prevention of nuisance, damage, vandalism, theft or tampering with the exhibits, fittings or fabric of the Museums / Art Gallery and their curtilage.
  • To provide a courteous and responsive service to all staff and visitors, keeping up to date visitor attendance records and handling a wide range of enquiries.
  • Promote sales, donations, operate sales point equipment and accurately follow cash, sales and retail procedures, including stock taking and stock management.
  • The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull Culture and Leisure, as your employer and you as an employee of the company. In addition to the Company’s overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health & safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Company’s Corporate H&S policy.

Compensation Grades: GRADES 2.

Pay Ranges: £24,413.00 - £24,796.00
