We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Lecturer in Foundation Learning to join our SEND and Foundation Learning department at Hull College. This exciting opportunity is ideal for a practitioner with a vocational specialism (e.g. Digital Skills, Hair & Beauty, Catering, Childcare) who is enthusiastic about engaging learners working at Entry Level and Level 1.
This role focuses on delivering inclusive and differentiated education to young people and adults who face multiple barriers to learning—including those with SEND and those who have become disengaged from mainstream education. As a key member of our inclusive education team, you will bring innovation, care, and practical teaching approaches to help our students thrive—academically, personally, and vocationally.
Responsibilities of our Lecturer in Foundation Learning:
- Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching and learning experiences to students on Entry Level and Level 1 Foundation programmes.
- Plan and develop creative, vocationally-linked sessions that engage students with varied and additional needs.
- Embed English, maths, employability and personal development into vocational learning wherever appropriate.
- Support learners with SEND or Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs), liaising with Learning Support and external agencies to ensure individual progress.
- Act as a personal tutor and mentor to support students' progression, wellbeing and career goals.
- Participate in curriculum planning and course development in line with Foundation Learning and RARPA standards.
- Lead on the development of practical, project-based learning activities aligned to a vocational specialism.
- Use innovative digital tools and platforms (such as Canvas) to engage and support learners both in and outside of the classroom.
- Participate in open days, recruitment events and outreach activities with schools and local community partners.
About You: You'll be a dedicated educator who believes in second chances and inclusive learning. You will have a subject specialism relevant to a vocational area and experience in teaching young people and/or adults with SEND and those who may be disaffected or have experienced educational disadvantage.
Essential Criteria:
- Level 3 or above qualification in a relevant vocational area (e.g. Digital, Hair and Beauty, Catering, etc.)
- Cert. Ed/PGCE or a willingness to achieve this
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths (minimum Grade C/4)
- Experience working with SEND learners or those with EHCPs in an educational or training setting
- Proven ability to engage disengaged or hard-to-reach learners
- Understanding of RARPA, EHCP processes and inclusive curriculum delivery
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong commitment to safeguarding, equality and learner support
Desirable Criteria:
- Level 5 teaching qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience delivering Entry Level and Level 1 vocational programmes
- Knowledge of restorative practice or trauma-informed approaches
- Experience with digital learning platforms (Canvas preferred)
