Lecturer in ESOL (GCSE Maths) – Fixed term until 3rd July 2026

Hull

Working Hours: 21 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary: £25,500 – £39,267 FTE (Actual Salary £15,300 – £23,560.20 pro rata)

Annual Leave: 30.5 days per annum (excluding bank holidays and up to 3 additional discretionary days over the Christmas/New Year period)

As our Lecturer in ESOL (GCSE Maths), you will work primarily with students engaged across a range of courses providing support needed to achieve their programme of study.

The post holder will need to be innovative in their teaching methods and responsible for aspects of leadership within the curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver teaching and learning, ensuring stretch, challenge and engagement of students of all ages and abilities. Collation and submission of financial claims as required to appropriate funding bodies and partners as required.
  • Plan, prepare and update all relevant teaching documentation including schemes of work, lesson plans and online learning materials, using Canvas.
  • Lead, coordinate and support course activities which will support the achievement of curriculum area targets. Accurately carry out the qualification completion process within the departmental systems in a timely manner.
  • Take responsibility and facilitate academic tutorials for students.
  • Be involved in the marketing, promotion, recruitment and interviewing of students, including attending open events, school tasters and enrolment events, amongst other activities.
  • Assess, monitor, and record feedback to students to facilitate their best achievement using the College’s data systems and processes, working to exam board guidelines and quality systems.
  • Lead, coordinate and support IV/IQA processes within the curriculum area.
  • Contribute to the quality assurance processes and curriculum design within the area.
  • Attend meetings and communicate with colleagues within the curriculum area as and when required.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of subject specialism by attending appropriate professional/vocational updating.

What we’re looking for

  • Subject specialism (minimum Level 3/4)
  • Cert. Ed/PGCE or willingness to work towards
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Experience of working in an academic setting and working with learners to support their needs
  • Knowledge of the specialist sector
  • Organisational, administrative and time management skills
  • Ability to use own initiative to develop and improve the service within the constraints of the College policy and procedures
