Hull College is a leading vocational provider committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. The college offers a wide range of vocational study programmes, apprenticeships and degrees to local learners and those from across the country. We are seeking an audit and compliance officer to oversee departmental assurance reviews, testing controls, and ensure regulatory compliance across multiple funding streams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver risk‑based assurance reviews across all funding streams.
  • Continuously test internal controls to ensure policies and processes are robust, compliant and efficient.
  • Validate the accuracy and completeness of ILR data submissions using DfE reports.
  • Lead the Provider Data Self‑Assessment Toolkit (PDSAT) and FRM reports, ensuring accurate annotation and risk resolution.
  • Identify, assess and document risks related to funding, data quality and compliance.
  • Produce assurance reports with findings, recommendations and risk ratings in line with college protocol.
  • Support business areas in tracking and resolving outstanding actions related to risk.
  • Assist in preparation for internal and external audits, including evidence gathering.
  • Provide a monthly overview report demonstrating actions taken and current issues.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Funding & Compliance and the Compliance & Data Teams to maintain and improve college policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on compliance and best practice.
  • Escalate significant risks or control issues in a timely manner to senior leadership.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen systems and controls.

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English or equivalent key/functional skills.
  • Experience working in an education environment.
  • Experience in a compliance, assurance or customer service role.
  • Knowledge of the funding environment for further and higher education, particularly capital matters.
  • Understanding of funding rules and mandatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to travel between all college sites and work flexibly, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Strong strategic vision for improving and enhancing the student experience within an FE & HE environment.
