We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated leader to join our Homelessness Prevention and Options Team as Team Leader for our Temporary Accommodation Team. You will line manage, support and motivate the team who deliver this vital front-line service.
The role will include:
- Ensuring the delivery of high quality and empathetic homelessness advice through direct management of, and responsibility for, the day-to-day activity of the temporary accommodation team, including complex casework and supporting your team with their decision making.
- Ensuring best use is made of available temporary accommodation stock, minimising empty units and costs to the council whilst ensuring that contingency plans are always in place in anticipation for emergency situations.
- Identifying pressure points, gaps and trends in terms of temporary accommodation needs, working with colleagues in the service to source and set up new units of accommodation that meet the needs of the service.
- Deputising for the team managers in their absence including representing the department at relevant meetings.
We are looking for someone who has substantial experience of giving advice and making decisions within part 7 of the 1996 Housing Act, ideally in a supervisory capacity, and is comfortable owning those decisions and working to tight deadlines within a pressurised environment. You will have a thorough understanding of the duties around the provision and management of local authority temporary accommodation, along with knowledge of current issues and pressures in this sector.
The role is reactive around the needs of the customer and will involve working responsively on a citywide basis – priorities can often change at short notice and no two days are ever the same.
