Hull Fostering Service is recruiting social workers to support foster care services across its teams, providing an opportunity to develop expertise in fostering within a supportive environment.
Role and Purpose
Grade 7: Provide and support high‑quality social work activities for Hull children and families, easing children into family‑based placements in line with the Fostering National Minimum Standards. This developmental role is for Newly Qualified Social Workers and those in the first three years of Early Professional Development.
Grade 8: All Grade7 responsibilities plus enhanced decision‑making autonomy in situations of increasing complexity, risk and challenge.
Grade 9: All Grade8 responsibilities plus effective practice in complex situations, managing high levels of risk and providing expert opinion on complex cases.
Principal Accountabilities
Grade7- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people including those of foster carers.
- Contribute to Hull Children’s social care strategy for safety, permanency and stability.
- Partnership work with colleagues, children, parents and carers, ensuring child‑centred practice.
- Engage in reflective and constructive challenge with colleagues and agencies.
- Recruit, assess and support foster carers and people with permanent orders, ensuring compliance with legislation and training provision.
- Find, match and allocate foster carers to meet child needs.
- Provide direct work with carers, children and families individually and collaboratively.
- Supervise and manage carers in accordance with statutory regulations.
- Engage in team activities to focus social work practice on positive child outcomes.
- Ensure accurate case recording, assessments, supervision, plans and reviews.
- Assist in decision‑making on complex/high‑risk cases and coordinate services.
- Prepare for and attend relevant decision‑making meetings and panels.
- Provide professional supervision to foster carers.
- Pursue personal and professional development and continuous learning.
- Engage and advise in professional decision‑making for complex/high‑risk cases.
- Provide co‑working support and advice to other staff.
- Offer peer supervision and development forums for carers and children.
- Prepare for and attend court as required.
- Lead on practice development, policy amendment and improved ways of working.
- Advise, support and supervise social work students and non‑qualified team members.
Out of Hours Service
Must be on call on a rota basis to provide out‑of‑hours service to foster carers in compliance with Fostering Regulations and National Standards.
Compensation and Grades
Grades: 7, 8, 9 – Pay ranges: £32,597.00–£42,839.00.
