This role delivers high quality, empathetic private sector access service to customers and landlords, preventing homelessness and facilitating sustainable tenancies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional, empathetic support to customers seeking advice and assistance via phone, email, IT or in person, managing expectations and challenging behaviours.
- Assist customers to access, secure and sustain private sector tenancies, including affordability assessments, property viewings, utility set‑up and benefit advice.
- Support tenants in private accommodation with tenancy/welfare checks, repair queries, benefits application and liaison with DWP or specialist support.
- Conduct visits to empty properties, customers’ homes and other settings, including lone working and safety checks.
- Prepare and manage private rented properties, including furniture, utilities, and liaise with landlords/agents on void security.
- Maintain expert knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Homelessness Reduction Act) and council policies to advise customers, landlords and colleagues.
- Administer workload efficiently, record activities accurately and provide statistics for performance management and HCLIC returns.
- Prioritise caseload, collaborate with the team and set team priorities to meet service demands.
- Advocate for the scheme, build relationships with landlords and partners, attend meetings and deliver information sessions.
- Mentor new starters and support team development.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Adhere to health and safety responsibilities as per the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and Council policy.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current driving licence and ability to use a private car for work.
- Experience working with the public in sensitive and challenging situations.
- Motivation to deliver high quality services and flexible, adaptable working style.
- Knowledge of housing legislation and tenancy support is desirable.
- Strong communication, advocacy and problem‑solving skills.
Compensation
- Salary: £32,597.00 – £35,412.00 (Grade 7)
