Hull is on a journey to make active travel an easy, enjoyable and accessible choice for everyone. As part of the wider Active Hull partnership and Sport England's Place Based Expansion programme, we're working closely with communities to redesign neighbourhoods, co-create solutions, and boost walking and wheeling where it matters most.
As an Active Travel Technician, you'll play a key role in designing, coordinating and delivering local active travel interventions across Hull. This means:
- Supporting street audits, surveys and community listening to identify where small-scale improvements can make a big impact.
- Working with residents to co-design neighbourhood interventions that encourage walking, wheeling and sustainable journeys.
- Helping build sustainable travel forums and strengthening local engagement.
- Connecting existing initiatives like Modeshift, Living Streets and Active Hull, with the city's wider place-based approach.
- Promoting and encouraging active travel options in pilot areas alongside our marketing, communications and engagement teams.
- Designing, analysing and implementing engineering measures, preparing drawings and documentation, and supporting procurement and contractor appointments.
- Contributing to evaluation, learning and reporting for Sport England and the Department for Transport.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Build strong relationships with residents, partners and stakeholders.
- Analyse problems, listen to feedback and develop creative, practical solutions.
- Manage multiple schemes at once, organise project documentation and support budget control.
- Work confidently with data, consultation materials, technical drawings and digital tools.
- Communicate clearly, whether writing concise reports, preparing engagement materials or speaking with the public.
