Overview

The Clinical Trials function of the Academic Department of Oncology and Haematology at the Queens Centre, Castle Hill Hospital is looking for a Research Nurse to work within the unit to support an increasing portfolio of Oncology/Haematology based clinical trials.

Applicants should be 1st level registered nurses and have significant acute nursing experience. Experience of working in a speciality with cancer related procedures/care or in clinical research, plus a mature attitude, are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in the recruitment, screening and care of patients predominantly in Oncology/Haematology clinical trials.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, an understanding of scientific protocols, an ability to prioritise workload and to work independently and flexibly.
  • Be enthusiastic and active in recruiting patients in line with NIHR targets.
  • Collaborate as part of an established team of Research Nurses and Clinical Trials Assistants; liaise with external research partners such as pharmaceutical companies, research networks and Clinical Trials Units.
  • Be flexible and responsive to the research needs of the organisation, potentially working in other research areas or as part of the \”Generic Research Team\”.
  • Be available for part-time or full-time hours with a variable pattern between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 1st level registered nurse with significant acute nursing experience.
  • Experience in cancer-related procedures/care or clinical research.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to prioritise, work independently and flexibly.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive in patient recruitment and capable of working toward NIHR targets.
  • Willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK; Sponsorship Accepted: applications from those requiring Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship will be considered.

Organisation and Staffing

The post holder will be based primarily within academic oncology and haematology but may work in other research areas or with the Generic Research Team as required. The Humber Health Partnership comprises NLAG and HUTH, with several hospital sites and a focus on delivering high-quality hospital and community services. Teaching Hospitals work with Hull York Medical School and contribute to research across biomedical, primary care, palliative, cardiovascular and oncologic areas. The partnership aims to develop a diverse, inclusive, innovative workforce to deliver excellent care.
