Overview

The advertised Locally Employed Doctor post is for a one-year fixed term Junior Clinical Fellow in anaesthesia with special interest in regional anaesthesia. This post is suitable for candidates who have prior UK experience (minimum 12 months), completed core training competencies in anaesthesia and have Primary FRCA or equivalent qualifications. The post is aimed at delivering specialised training opportunities in regional anaesthesia to develop the clinical knowledge, skills, competence and breadth of experience necessary for gaining approval for training.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be allocated to service provision lists with local supervision on their routine working days for at least 50% of their weekly schedule when not on call. The remaining weekly sessions will be allocated to dedicated theatre/trauma lists which have opportunities for ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia techniques including but not limited to USG guided upper and lower limb, abdominal wall and chest wall blocks with catheters. The post holder will form part of the acute pain/block team during daytime working at Hull Royal Infirmary and will be encouraged to provide chest wall blocks (serratus anterior and erector spinae) for rib fracture patients and also support non regionalists. Once competent, they will have the opportunity to run regional block lists independently.

On-call and supervision

The applicant will provide their service and participate in a 1:8 prospective cover on-call rota working in obstetrics and intensive care providing them opportunities to improve their general competencies as they progress in their career. The applicant will be provided an educational/clinical supervisor who will mentor and guide their career progression.
