We are looking to appoint an apprentice Teaching Assistant for September. This will be in either Reception, Year 1 or 2, depending upon other appointments. Hindhayes Infant School is a welcoming, friendly school, with a supportive staff which offers excellent opportunities to work with education professionals.
Wage: £11,960 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. As this role is term time only, the salary will be paid pro-rata.
Hours: 08:45 – 15:00 daily, with a ½ hour lunch break. Term time only. 28 hours 45 minutes a week.
Duration: 1 year 6 months.
Work: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work:
- Deliver and prepare learning support individually and in groups through a range of tasks.
- Develop, maintain and apply knowledge and understanding of pupils’ general and specific learning needs to ensure that support is given to them at an appropriate level.
- Motivate and encourage pupils to concentrate on and fulfil the tasks set.
- Seek to ensure the promotion and reinforcement of pupils’ self-esteem, appropriate levels of effort and behaviour and to guide pupils to become independent learners.
- Provide support, care and supervision of pupils within the classroom, within the school and outside of the school.
- Develop an understanding of and provide for pupils’ specific personal needs to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Provide direct personal care, support and assistance to the pupil in respect of toileting, eating, mobility and dispensing medication.
- Work with pupil groups, using a range of strategies to gain acceptance and inclusion of pupils with special educational needs.
- Assist in the preparation for educational visits, and where appropriate accompany/supervise students undertaking off-site activities.
- Liaise with parents and other professional agencies in support of pupils’ needs.
- Supervise pupils in designated areas of the school during the midday break and ensure their safety, welfare, continued development and general conduct through appropriate application of the school’s policies and procedures.
- Adhere to and execute school policy and procedure where appropriate.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining the learning environment to support teaching staff in the development of learning strategies; maintain data files, catalogue resources, maintain inventories, photocopy and use IT systems for administration and educational purposes.
- Contribute to systems for review and recording of pupils’ progress, both academic and social.

Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
