We are seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join Hughes & Associates Property Services Ltd. In this role, you will deliver professional advice across a wide range of property and construction matters, from high-value projects to minor works and repairs. You will be responsible for producing detailed reports, specifications and building surveys, identifying defects, and recommending appropriate repair, maintenance and remedial solutions. The role also includes project management across a varied portfolio, including PFI hospitals, local authority assets, social housing and listed buildings.
You will liaise closely with clients, contractors and other stakeholders, attend and chair meetings, and represent the company while building and maintaining strong client relationships. This role is suitable for candidates based within a commutable distance of Oxfordshire, Greater London, Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver projects on time and within budget
- Advise clients on project requirements and development schemes
- Prepare designs, costings, project programmes and specifications
- Manage tender processes and advise on procurement routes and contractor appointments
- Assess building conditions, carry out defect analysis, and recommend remedial works
- Advise on maintenance strategies and building management
- Provide guidance on property legislation and building regulations
- Undertake feasibility studies
- Advise on health and safety matters relating to buildings
- Lead and manage projects from inception to completion
- Demonstrate knowledge of fire risk assessments (desirable)
- Apply strong IT skills and analytical thinking
Working Conditions
This is a site-focused role, with a significant proportion of time spent on inspections and visits rather than desk-based work. There may be periods of lone working. Working hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Occasional out-of-hours work may be required to meet client needs. Some overnight travel may be necessary, with expenses covered.
Qualifications
- Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent
- Preferably RICS accredited or working towards chartership
- Relevant post-graduate experience
