Key Requirements/Qualifications

  • Previous MIG and MMA welding experience
  • A good engineering background is an advantage
  • Experience working on Heavy Plant Machinery/Excavators is essential
  • Health and Safety Awareness
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliability and a good work ethic are imperative for this role as the welder will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance of heavy plant machinery needed on site.

Job Description

As a result of a continuing dynamic approach to our work, Hughes and Salvidge are currently searching for a welder to become an essential part of our machine maintenance team.

As a heavy plant welder, you would be expected to:

  • Assess which welding equipment is required and which method is the most appropriate for a specific welding task
  • Repair machinery or other components by welding or filling holes
  • Inspect welded surfaces and smooth them for the best finish
  • Align components to be welded using rulers, and clamp the pieces for stability
  • Know how to calculate dimensions of parts to be welded
  • Work well within a team and be able to work alone
