Overview
Hugh Baird College, an Ofsted Outstanding provider, is looking for a skilled carpenter or joiner who wants to pass on their craft to the next generation. This role is ideal for someone who still wants to stay on the tools, but also develop others and build a new part-time teaching career. No teaching experience or qualifications are required initially; we will support you through a Level 3 teaching qualification, fully funded.

Compensation: £33,000 – £41,108 per year (Full-time equivalent; pro-rata for hours worked)
Contract: Part-Time, Permanent (Flexible hours to suit you)
Responsibilities
- Teach and support students across Carpentry & Joinery programmes (training provided).
- Deliver practical skills sessions and help students develop confidence in workshop environments.
- Provide clear feedback and guidance to help learners progress.
- Support course administration and contribute to curriculum improvements.
- Maintain a positive and motivating learning environment.
- Engage in professional development, including working toward your teaching qualification.
Essential Criteria
- Strong Carpentry & Joinery experience, ideally Level 3 qualified or equivalent industry expertise.
- Up-to-date knowledge of modern industry practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly, support learners, and inspire others.
- Maths and English at GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent (or willingness to work toward this).
Desirable (But Not Required)
- Experience mentoring apprentices or training others on site.
- Experience supervising teams or trainees.
- Knowledge of FE or apprenticeship standards.
