An established and growing precision engineering company is seeking a trainee Quality Engineer to support the Quality Department in ensuring that products and processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards. This trainee Quality Engineer is ideal for someone starting a career in quality engineering within an engineering or manufacturing environment. As a trainee Quality Engineer you will gain hands-on experience in inspection, quality systems, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement while working towards becoming a fully competent Quality Engineer. Working across areas like automotive and aerospace, this is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career in a high-quality manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance
    • Assist in maintaining compliance with quality standards to AS9100
    • Support internal audits and external audit preparation
    • Help maintain and update quality documentation, procedures, and records
  • Inspection & Measurement
    • Perform dimensional and visual inspection of components using Verniers, micrometres, height gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) (training provided)
    • Record inspection data and ensure traceability
  • Non-Conformance & Problem Solving
    • Assist in the investigation of non-conforming products
    • Support root cause analysis using tools such as:
    • Help implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Process Improvement
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes
    • Assist in data collection and analysis to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate quality records in line with company and customer requirements
    • Assist in generating inspection reports, FAIRs (First Article Inspection Reports), and quality metrics
  • Customer & Supplier Quality
    • Support supplier quality activities, including documentation checks

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic understanding of engineering or manufacturing principles
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related discipline
  • Knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001/AS9100)
  • Experience with engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Familiarity with inspection equipment or quality tools

Salary & Benefits

£13-14 per hour (equivalent to approx. 26-28k permanent salary); Regular overtime available; 20 days holiday + bank holidays; Pension scheme.
