An aerospace leader is urgently seeking a Technical Author responsible for the creation and control of task cards and work cards for the engineers and technicians to use and follow when carrying out their tasks. As a Technical Author, you will work with maintenance managers and planning engineers to extract and develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly work instructions that support the safe and efficient execution of maintenance activities. You will transform complex technical data into structured documentation that enhances operational effectiveness and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate complex maintenance procedures, technical manuals, and engineering instructions into clear, logical, step-by-step task cards and work instructions.
- Develop and maintain detailed work cards that support engineering and maintenance activities.
- Manage document revision and version control processes, ensuring teams are always working to the latest approved documentation.
- Validate work instructions alongside technicians to confirm practicality, usability, and accuracy within the operational environment.
- Collaborate with engineering, planning, and maintenance teams to gather technical information and ensure documentation remains current and effective.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by incorporating user feedback and operational lessons learned into documentation updates.
- Ensure all documentation meets relevant quality, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Engineering qualification (Level 3 or above, or equivalent experience).
- Experience interpreting and documenting complex engineering or technical processes.
- Ability to extract technical information and communicate it clearly in written English.
- Strong attention to detail and document control discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital documentation tools.
- Strong organisational, administrative, and stakeholder management abilities.
Desirable
- Experience within aerospace, defence, military, government or a regulated engineering environment.
- Previous maintenance planning or technical services exposure.
- Knowledge of maintenance management or planning systems.
Clearance
Successful candidates will be required to undergo background screening and obtain relevant security clearances, subject to role requirements. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
