A growing and innovative engineering business operating at the forefront of subsea and offshore technology is looking to appoint a Senior Design Engineer (Electrical) to support a range of high-specification projects. This position combines electrical and mechanical design, with a strong focus on engineered connection systems (including cable-based assemblies, harnessing, and integrated electro-mechanical solutions).
As a senior design engineer (electro-mechanical / electrical background), you would play a key role within a specialist engineering team, offering the opportunity to work on complex electro-mechanical systems used in demanding environments, including offshore energy and remotely operated applications in the cables sector.
As an experienced electrical design engineer, you will play a central role in the design and development of critical connection systems, cables, and assemblies that support performance, reliability, and safety in challenging subsea conditions like remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
Remote / Hybrid working is available following an initial onboarding period, during which time you will spend time on-site to integrate with the team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design of electro-mechanical cable systems, including power, signal, and fibre-based solutions.
- Develop specifications based on customer requirements and operational environments.
- Produce technical documentation, calculations, and design outputs.
- Define and support testing and validation activities under real-world conditions (e.g. mechanical stress, environmental exposure).
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are delivered effectively.
- Investigate and resolve performance issues, feeding improvements into future designs.
- Support customer-facing teams with technical input where required.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Strong background in electrical or electro-mechanical design.
- Experience working with engineered cable systems, harnessing, or similar connection technologies.
- Understanding of how electrical and mechanical principles interact in complex environments.
- Comfortable working across design, manufacturing, and testing.
- Experience in cable systems, harness design, or electro-mechanical assemblies (subsea, offshore, defence, or industrial sectors advantageous).
- Knowledge of electrical fundamentals (current, voltage, insulation, thermal effects, etc.).
- Exposure to mechanical considerations such as stress, fatigue, and material performance.
- CAD experience (2D essential, 3D beneficial e.g. AutoCAD / SolidWorks).
- Experience working within engineering or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with quality standards (e.g. ISO 9001).
Be part of a growing, innovative team. Hybrid working flexibility for senior hires. Career development and mentoring opportunities.
