An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established, growing engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in the design and development of advanced industrial equipment and automation systems. As an experienced electrical design engineer, you will be working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, responsible for the electrical design and development of bespoke machinery from concept through to manufacture, ensuring products meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and single-line drawings using EPLAN Electric P8.
- Develop electrical systems for bespoke machinery including control panels, power distribution, motion control systems and wiring harnesses.
- Produce accurate electrical documentation including schematics, bills of materials, wiring schedules and build documentation.
- Perform electrical calculations including power and load calculations, component selection and safety assessments.
- Ensure all designs comply with UKCA/CE requirements and relevant standards including IEC 60204-1, ISO 13849 and EN ISO 12100.
- Manage engineering documentation and revision control using engineering data management systems.
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to improve quality, reliability and manufacturability.
- Support prototype builds, testing, commissioning and electrical fault finding.
- Work closely with mechanical, software, manufacturing and production teams to successfully deliver projects.
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, suppliers and customers where required.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding electrical components, panel builds and technical queries.
Skills & Experience Required
- Degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience designing electrical systems for industrial machinery, automation equipment, special purpose machinery or capital equipment.
- Strong proficiency using EPLAN Electric P8.
- Experience transitioning designs from proof-of-concept or R&D through to production-ready hardware (Product Development Lifecycle).
- Direct customer engagement experience, from requirements capture through to acceptance testing.
- Experience designing control panels, electrical distribution systems, motion control systems and machine wiring.
- Good understanding of electrical calculations, cable sizing, component selection and machine safety.
- Knowledge of UKCA/CE compliance together with IEC 60204-1, ISO 13849 and EN ISO 12100.
- Experience producing complete electrical documentation packages including schematics, BOMs and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience integrating lasers, optics, motion systems, or print heads into electrical and control assemblies.
- Familiarity with engineering document control systems such as Autodesk Vault, PDM or similar.
Desirable
- Experience within automation, robotics, high-speed machinery, precision manufacturing or special purpose machinery.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM), value engineering and continuous improvement techniques.
- Experience with root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D or 5 Why.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
