Job Description
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Hydraulic & Motion Systems
A Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is required with deep expertise in hydraulic systems, motion control, and mechatronics. This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineer from automotive, oil & gas, or aviation sectors, and advanced SolidWorks CAD skills.
Join a dynamic engineering team developing precision hydraulic and motion control systems for demanding applications. You’ll lead complex design projects, produce detailed manufacturing drawings, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical assemblies: actuators, solenoid manifolds, cardan bearings, load cells
- Create General Assembly (GA) drawings, hydraulic schematics, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and manufacturing documentation
- Integrate hydraulic and motion systems with a focus on dynamic performance and reliability
- Ensure compliance with Machinery Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive, and other relevant standards
- Use SolidWorks to develop new designs and update existing components
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles
- Lead design reviews and collaborate with suppliers, production, and service teams
- Maintain technical documentation and support risk assessments and test procedures
Required Skills & Experience:
- HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Mechanical design within automotive, oil & gas, or aviation industries
- Strong background in dynamics, mechatronics, and hydraulic systems integration
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks; experience with DraftSight or similar 2D CAD tools
- In-depth knowledge of BS 8888, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
- Proven ability to produce high-quality manufacturing drawings and select appropriate materials
- Excellent problem-solving, fault-finding, and project management skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
