A leading biopharma company is urgently seeking a Regulatory Chemist with experience in REACh and related regulations. As the company’s only dedicated regulatory professional, the Regulatory Chemist will have full ownership of all regulatory responsibilities, from strategy notifications, submissions etc. A background in polymers, additives, coatings, or biocides is highly desirable.
As the Regulatory Chemist, you will ensure chemical products and raw materials comply with global regulatory standards (REACH, CLP, GHS, BPR, EPA, etc.). You’ll support regulatory submissions, product safety assessments, internal compliance, and act as a liaison with regulatory bodies. This company (SME) has extensive product development experience in polymer materials, coatings, ceramics creating distinctive, high-value products sold worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with international chemical regulations.
* Prepare and submit regulatory notifications to relevant authorities in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with applicable laws and internal compliance requirements.
* Must have EU regs exp.
* Regulatory Compliance & Documentation.
* Ensure compliance with global regulations such as REACH (EU), CLP, GHS, EPA (US), Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), etc.
* Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labels, and Technical Data Sheets (TDS) in accordance with relevant legislation.
* Prepare and maintain regulatory documents (SDS, TDS, labels, dossiers).
* Assess raw materials/products for regulatory risk and compliance.
* Support internal teams (R&D, Sales, Quality, Marketing) with regulatory guidance.
* Maintain internal regulatory records and databases.
* Monitor global regulatory changes and adjust strategies accordingly.
* Handle biocidal product notifications and regulatory audits.
* Review and interpret test results (e.g., toxicity, biodegradability, VOC levels) relevant to product safety and regulatory claims.
* Support the preparation of marketing and customer documentation with regulatory inputs and claims substantiation.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree MSc or PhD (preferred) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Regulatory Science, or related field.
* Several years’ regulatory/compliance experience in chemical, pharma, or related sectors.
* Must be able to work across departments
* Used to working with 3rd party consultants when necessary
* Strong knowledge of chemical legislation (REACH, BPR (biocidal regs), GHS, etc.).
* Proficiency with SDS tools and regulatory databases
Desirable: Experience with biocides, polymers, environmental regulations, or toxicology.
Onsite 5 days – but some flexibility outside core hours.
