Are you a chemist who is immediately available? We urgently require a short-term temp as part of a sickness cover. As an industrial chemist, you will be supporting chemical treatment processes including anodising, passivation, chemical conversion coating, and photochemical milling. As a process chemist / industrial chemist, you will perform industrial wet chemistry techniques, chemical analyses, maintain chemical baths, monitor process controls, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. This laboratory chemist position is hands-on in a manufacturing production environment requiring a solid understanding of chemical processes and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The role will be on an approx. 4-week temp basis to start. Start Immediate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform regular analysis of chemical baths used in anodising, passivation, chemical conversion coating, and photochemical milling processes.
- Monitor and adjust chemical concentrations to ensure optimal performance and compliance with specifications.
- Carry out routine titrations, pH measurements, and other analytical tests as required.
- Maintain detailed records of all analyses and adjustments.
- Ensure the proper functioning and control of surface treatment processes by regularly inspecting chemical solutions and equipment.
- Work closely with production teams to monitor process conditions, troubleshoot issues, and optimise production efficiency.
- Implement and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and control plans.
- Manage the preparation, maintenance, and disposal of chemical solutions in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular checks on chemical inventory levels and ensure sufficient stock for uninterrupted operations.
- Support quality control inspections of treated materials, including visual and dimensional checks, and assess compliance with customer or industry standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis on process deviations or failures and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure compliance with EH&S regarding the use and disposal of chemicals, including the management of waste streams from treatment processes.
- Participate in risk assessments and assist in implementing safety measures in the lab and on the shop floor.
- Assist in the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment supporting chemical processes such as anodising, passivation, chemical conversion coating, or photochemical milling.
- Experience in titration, pH measurement, and other routine laboratory testing procedures.
- Knowledge of chemical safety, handling, and environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of surface treatment processes (anodising, passivation, etc.) and chemical formulations.
- Proficiency with lab equipment and testing instruments.
- Familiarity with industrial chemical control, waste management, and quality control systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other relevant quality management systems is an advantage.
