A well-established SME manufacturing organisation is seeking a mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer to support its production facility. The company operates large-scale manufacturing equipment supplying sectors such as defence and offshore energy. This role would suit a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical maintenance, machining and workshop skills, who enjoys working in a practical production environment. Welding capability (MIG or ARC) would be advantageous but is not essential.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will support both planned preventative and reactive maintenance programmes, helping maximise plant reliability and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). With in-house design and manufacturing expertise, the company offers excellent long-term stability and career development opportunities. Shift: 7:00am – 3:30pm (some overtime available)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first-line mechanical maintenance and repair support for production machinery.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to breakdowns.
  • Support general site and building maintenance where required.
  • Undertake machining work including turning, milling and lathe operations (essential) where needed.
  • Assist with continuous improvement and equipment upgrade projects.
  • Work collaboratively with production teams to maintain equipment uptime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
  • Proactively identify reliability improvements and preventative solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent industrial training.
  • Recognised engineering qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC or similar).
  • Mechanical maintenance experience within manufacturing or heavy industry essential.
  • Basic electrical knowledge beneficial but not essential.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding capability.
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and rotating machinery.
  • Machining skills — milling, turning and lathe work essential.
  • Welding capability (MIG or ARC) essential (certs desirable but not required).
  • General workshop and fabrication experience advantageous.
