As an experienced PCB Design Engineer, you will join a leading technology solutions provider applying your expertise in PCB / PCBa layout for a hands-on team leader and PCB design role. You will deliver innovative, high-performance products for a range of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The scope of projects will be vast, challenging and interesting whilst mentoring and leading some of the more junior members of the team. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team (Mechanical, Electronic, PCB, and Software Engineers) contributing to your pertinent stages of the product lifecycle from initial contact with the customer through quotation, conception and design to manufacture.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop a broad and versatile background and to take on managerial responsibilities with applications across Automotive, Renewable Energy, Consumer Goods, Aerospace, Medical, R&D. This role is remote, with occasional travel to the South East office when required (roughly once a month).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assist when necessary other members of the team
- Develop PCB designs supporting both new and maintaining current products
- Create complete design packages, to include all PCB design data
- Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings & electronic circuit symbols
- Create single image and panelised designs reflecting in-house manufacturing rules
- Review and check design data to ensure production standards are maintained
- Work confidently and liaise with PCB and project design team members
- Provide efficient placement and routing analysis for design consideration
- Be able to work to deadlines and produce work of high quality
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Skills
- Minimum HNC/ HND or engineering degree level qualification
- Experience in leading, mentoring, or managing others for a team leader role
- Proven experience of at least one of the following: Altium Designer, Cadence Orcad/Allegro, Siemens PADS
- Experience designing with high-speed digital design, analogue or complex circuits, including fine pitch components (BGA) and high pin count devices
- Experience of working within an engineering design environment
- Understanding electronic design documentation (schematic and layout definitions)
- Familiarity with PCB fabrication and assembly processes
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture / Test (DFM, DFT)
Desirable Skills
- Understanding of Product Data Management (PDM) systems
- An understanding of electronic circuits and components
- PCB routing for impedance control, power planes and signal integrity
- Experience of EMC requirements for PCB design
- Knowledge of UL, FCC, and CE certification
- Knowledge and ability to work to IPC standards
