An exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong oil & gas background to join a growing and technically innovative engineering business supporting the development of specialist equipment for the global energy sector.

This is a senior, hands-on design role offering the opportunity to take ownership of complex engineering projects from design and development through to testing and manufacture, working closely with customers, management and workshop/manufacturing teams.

You will be involved in product development, engineering design, technical drawings, design reviews, qualification and testing, with particular relevance to well completion and specialist oilfield equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and maintain engineering standards and processes
  • Produce and review detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
  • Develop assembly, disassembly and redress procedures
  • Lead design reviews and approve engineering designs
  • Support product development from concept through to testing
  • Prepare engineering test requests and reports
  • Oversee prototype design and workshop testing
  • Analyse customer specifications and technical requirements
  • Ensure designs meet engineering, performance and customer specifications
  • Define Design Acceptance Criteria (DAC)
  • Maintain drawing integrity and manage design changes
  • Work closely with management, engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Support equipment qualification and testing
  • Present new designs and provide technical guidance during assembly and testing

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or similar
  • 10+ years relevant engineering/design experience within oil & gas or a highly engineered environment
  • Strong experience producing engineering and manufacturing drawings
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or CADWorx
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing methods
  • Experience with completion equipment, downhole equipment highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering design calculations
  • Understanding of API manufacturing principles and standards
  • Knowledge of standards such as API 11D1, ASNT and AWS
  • Experience with engineering qualification, testing and prototype development
  • Strong understanding of drawing control and design change processes
  • QHSE / API Q1 awareness and project planning experience advantageous
