An established and growing precision engineering company is seeking a trainee Quality Engineer to support the Quality Department in ensuring that products and processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards. This trainee Quality Engineer is ideal for someone starting a career in quality engineering within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
As a trainee Quality Engineer you will gain hands-on experience in inspection, quality systems, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement while working towards becoming a fully competent Quality Engineer. Responsibilities
- Quality Assurance & Compliance - Assist in maintaining compliance with quality standards to AS9100
- Support internal audits and external audit preparation
- Help maintain and update quality documentation, procedures, and records
- Inspection & Measurement - Perform dimensional and visual inspection of components using:
- Verniers, micrometres, height gauges
- Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) (training provided)
- Record inspection data and ensure traceability
- Non-Conformance & Problem Solving - Assist in the investigation of non-conforming products
- Support root cause analysis using tools such as:
- Help implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Process Improvement - Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes
- Assist in data collection and analysis to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Documentation & Reporting - Maintain accurate quality records in line with company and customer requirements
- Assist in generating inspection reports, FAIRs (First Article Inspection Reports), and quality metrics
- Customer & Supplier Quality - Support supplier quality activities, including documentation checks
Skills and Qualifications
- Essential
- Basic understanding of engineering or manufacturing principles
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills
- Desirable
- HNC/HND or degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related discipline
- Knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001/AS9100)
- Experience with engineering drawings and GD&T
- Familiarity with inspection equipment or quality tools
Salary & Benefits
£13-14 per hour (equivalent to approx. 26-28k permanent salary); Regular overtime available; 20 days holiday + bank holidays; Pension scheme.
