An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Assembly (Hydraulic) Fitter to join a leading engineering and R&D team developing advanced hydraulic testing systems for global customers. This is a hands-on role as a Hydraulics Mechanical fitter prepares a broad variety of component parts and assembles them into finished system elements used to construct specialist hydraulic test and motion simulation systems before shipment to customers worldwide.
As a Mechanical Assembly (Hydraulic) Fitter, you will work with large, high-value components manufactured to tight tolerances, using a range of hand, power and precision engineering tools. The role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Assembly & Fitting
- Prepare component parts to required quality standards before assembling into system elements
- Assemble mechanical components and sub-assemblies using hand, power and precision engineering tools
- Work with large and high-value components requiring careful and sensitive handling
- Use and correctly interpret component and assembly drawings, along with written and verbal instructions
- Carry out manual handling of components and assemblies in accordance with health and safety requirements
- Use lifting equipment safely and appropriately where required
- Quality & Safety
- Identify and report substandard quality through established procedures
- Ensure components and assemblies meet required quality standards before progressing
- Work in accordance with work instructions, risk assessments and health & safety requirements
- Maintain 5S workplace cleanliness standards
- Contribute to the development of work instructions and risk assessments
- Team & Customer Support
- Work effectively with colleagues across the production and engineering teams
- Support installation work at customer sites when required
- Represent the company professionally when working with customers
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrable experience reading and interpreting technical drawings for component parts and assemblies
- Mechanical assembly experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Experience working with high-value / low-volume component parts in a precision engineering environment
- Commercial mechanical assembly experience
- Understanding or experience of hydraulic systems would be advantageous
- Apprenticeship or equivalent practical/educational background
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical assembly skills
- Ability to correctly read and interpret component and assembly drawings
- Confident use of hand, power and precision engineering tools
- Excellent hand skills and dexterity
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
