Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a senior Systems Engineer with deep Linux expertise and AWS skills to join our Trading Systems Infrastructure team. We build and maintain trading infrastructure hyper-optimized for low-latency, starting from the bare metal, both on-premise and in the cloud. Our trading strategies run worldwide 24/7.
In this critical role, you will work in a solutions architecture capacity focusing on AWS, delivering scalable, secure, and reliable solutions on our AWS Linux crypto trading platform.
Responsibilities:
- Own, standardize, and implement the technical requirements of high-frequency crypto trading systems in the AWS cloud based on business needs for performance and reliability
- Optimize bare metal performance, both on-premise and in cloud environments, with a strong emphasis on Linux systems
- Integrate seamlessly with existing systems on-premise and in the cloud
- Develop automation scripts and tools using Python to support this effort
- Utilize Terraform and Salt (we are committed to IaC) to ensure platform consistency and scalability
- Explore and apply network latency optimization techniques
- Collaborate and support internal teams throughout the implementation process
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Required to have proven deep experience as a Solutions Architect or Cloud SRE with a focus on AWS, preferably in a high-frequency trading environment or performance-focused role
- Required to have proven deep experience in Linux system administration and system engineering, with a strong understanding of Linux internals
- Proficiency in Python programming for automation and scripting tasks
- Strong experience with Terraform and Salt (or equivalent tooling) for convergent infrastructure provisioning and configuration management
- Extensive experience in managing hardware components
- Strong AWS and on-premise application-side networking experience
- Excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role
Pluses:
- Proven experience with AWS internals
- AWS certification(s) such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Strong knowledge of other cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure
- Prior experience as a Linux Systems Administrator
